MONday, TUESday, WEDNESday, THURSday...

Katelyn: Mom! I'm going to Jordan's house to go swimming!

Me: Yes, honey, that will be on Sunday for her birthday.

Katelyn: What's today?

Me: Today is Thursday.

Katelyn: What is that? What's Monday?

Me: No, today is THURSDAY. Jordan's birthday party is on Sunday.

Katelyn: What is it? Today?

Me: THURS-day.

Katelyn: Are we going to Jordan's house today?

Me: No, we're going to her house on Thursday. That's in... um... three more sleeps.

Katelyn: Huh?

Me: You have to sleep three more times and then we'll go to her house so you can swim.

Katelyn: But I don't WANT to sleep! I'm not sleepy!

Me: Hey, what's that over there? Is that chocolate? Let's get some!

Katelyn: Ok! I looove chocolate!

*whew* I was NOT going to add to her confusion by mentioning Laurilyn & Kyalin's birthday celebration on Saturday. Fuh-get-about-it!

Kids and time are like... well, myself and time (a day late and a dollar short).

It seems so simple to tell my son "We're going to see the Bee Movie at the library on Friday... today is Wednesday" and have him understand when that is, etc. I've used the whole sleep comparison, too, since it seems so natural.

But still, an hour after explaining it thoroughly, I hear "Are we going to see the Bee Movie now?"
