Kiss me, you fool

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day! Ours was spent helping my parents, sisters and brother-in-law move back into their house (the house we grew up in). Long story short, housing market sucks so back they go into the original house after giving the tenants the BOOT! I always love me some family time, even if hard labor was involved (ok, it was the men who did the actual hard labor while my Mom, sisters and I "watched the kids" *wink, *wink) so it was still a nice Mother's Day. Thank goodness for Outback curb-side to-go. Oh, and I can't forget the gift that was bestowed upon me from Alfred and the kiddos.

I was trying to describe to my girlfriend how Jacob kisses when he, as if on cue, leans in and gives me a big, wet, "O" kiss on the cheek. This boy does NOT pucker his lips when he kisses but will instead open his mouth wide and come at you with drool spilling from his lips like a french-kiss about to go horribly wrong. It mortifies his sisters but at the same time they are thrilled that they are getting a kiss from their baby brother, no matter how gross they think it is. This is how he looks right before he plants a big, wet one wherever his mouth happens to land on your face. Ideally, it should land on your cheek and not your nose (or, should I say, AROUND your nose). Trust me. I speak from experience.

(My sister actually took this photo because she was so amused by the star cracker she stuck on his chest!)

My girlfriend said that her son used to kiss that way when he was a baby, too. When my girls were babies, they puckered or pursed their lips to give you a kiss. Is kissing open-mouthed a baby boy thing? Is it embedded in their instincts, preparing them for those hot and heavy dates in high school (or in my son's case, COLLEGE, if I have anything to say about it)? Part of me is thinking maybe I shouldn't teach him the CORRECT way to kiss, just to see how his girlfriends react when they share their first "real kiss". That explains the ex-boyfriends who were really bad kissers. A mom's cruel, cruel joke on the potential girlfriends. How do YOUR babies give you kisses?

My son kisses the same way. Hmm. I wonder if it is a boy thing?

LOL! My daughter used to give those kinds of kisses. AFter she's seen my hubby grab my face and plant ones on my lips...she tries to do the same to me....not very amusing :(

LOVE that pic and so jealous of your gift!

We are so hooked on Outback curb side pick up...it would only be better if they delivered!

Also, the pic of your little boy is so sweet. My godson kisses the same way and I LOVE it!

You'll miss them when he's a teenager (hopefully he doesn't try that w/ you by then)!

My daughters did that also, but outgrew it after only a few months.

My son on the other hand, who is almost 13, still gives me the WETTEST kisses, although closed mouth, thank goodness...bad mom that I am, I wipe them off with a hearty "YUCK!", which he laughs at.

:) Terri

Alexis didn't figure out to close her mouth when she kissed until fairly recently. Up until then, it was like kissing a fish. A very wet, slimy fish.

hello
thanks for leaving the comments on my blog. it was very nice of you to come and read. im glad to know you are also filipino. there's not a lot of us here in NC. in fact, im the only I know! also when i read you have a big family, i got jealous! i've always wanted one but i don't think i can give birth to more than 2! so to marry into a ready-made family must feel overwhelming and amazing at the same time! keep in touch!

That picture is so cute!

My son totally gives the open mouth kiss! He leans in, mouth open, drool spilling out and just pushes his face against mine. He does half-close his eyes, which kinda cracks me up.

BTW, when is his b-day? I know you've said he is 11MO and so is Conal (he'll be 1 on 6/5).

Sounds like the open-mouthed kiss is a baby thing in general! =) Too cute!

FelicePD - Jacob will be turning 1 on 6/9 (very close to Conal!)

They are almost exactly the same age! I thought the beginning of June was a great time to have a baby. It probably isn't as much of an issue for you in San Diego but here, in upstate NY, if you have a baby in winter (or late fall/early spring) you have to do so much bundling-up before going anywhere. June was perfect!

I can agree with TerriRainer here...my thirteen year old still hasn't outgrown the mouth kissing thing...and I'm his dad! His kisses aren't wet though, they're dry and quick :D
My two year old on the other hand...absolute kissing MONSTER...he kisses me even more vigorously than he kisses his mom!!! He'll come at you with his big open mouth, and he will SMASH his face into you...sometimes I have to pull his mouth off mine! I remember when he was a year old, he found it absolutely hilarious when he stuck his tongue in my mouth...I had to give him a talk XD
